Jacksonville has the third largest military presence in the country. Because of this, the University of North Florida is familiar with the unique challenges military personnel and their dependents face when going to college.

In 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, UNF has been included on the G.I. Job’s list of Military Friendly Schools, honoring education institutions doing the most to “serve America’s service members and veterans as students.”

On Campus Resources

Military & Veterans Resource Center– established in 2009 and staffed by veterans, it serves as the center point entry for veterans and their families as they navigate the civilian and academic worlds.

Entrepreneurship Training for Veterans- provides instruction in the essentials of successful business operations to veterans who wish to start a business or grow an existing one. From writing a business plan, to identifying funding sources, to avoiding business pit falls, the semi-annual conference assists participants in achieving their goals.

Marine Corporal Joshua Watkins Memorial Scholarship- In December 2006, Josh’s family established the Marine Corporal Joshua C. Watkins Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of North Florida to honor Joshua’s sacrifice and aid returning veterans in continuing their education, as Josh had planned to do.

Student Veterans of America Club (SVA) open to current military, veterans and any individuals who support veteran’s causes. SVA does volunteer work to assist and interact with local veterans and each other.

One Stop-Veteran Affairs– primary goal is the initiation and assured continuation of education benefits, but also provides supportive services to veterans, national guardsmen, reservists, and eligible beneficiaries enrolled at UNF
