Important UNF Resources

Feeling a little lost on what resources are available to you at UNF? Luckily, we are here to help. Here are the most important resources you’ll need throughout your time at UNF.

  1. myWings

Your number one resource for life at UNF is your myWings account! You will hear this over and over again, “Did you check your myWings account?” And it absolutely is true. This is where you will get notifications of red flags or holds on your account. You want to catch those red flags sooner than later too. So make it a daily habit to check that myWings account and email!

  1. One-Stop Student Services

Once you’ve checked your myWings account and discovered there is additional action that needs to take place, you might need to head over to One-Stop Student Services. This is your all-inclusive office for admissions, financial aid, registration and so much more. Your trips to One-Stop will be better spent if you take the time to review your myWings account first, though. You wouldn’t want to spend your morning in line to speak to someone in One-Stop when you could’ve resolved the problem from the comfort of your bed on your laptop.

  1. Career services

So besides keeping yourself alive and going to class, the other pretty important thing that goes along with your college years, is knowing what you want to do with your life. And sure, that is always the most dreaded question your family asks you when you go home, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a confident answer next time? Our friends in Career Services can help you figure it out. You can take tests to assess your skills, interests, values and personality and determine the career path that may be best suited for your unique interests. They may even help you discover a major or career you weren’t aware of before.

  1. Academic advising

Staying on track to graduate can be harder than you think it is, just ask the students on the six-year plan. Kidding of course, but it is easier when you have an expert to help you map it out. Each college has its own set of advisors and one will be assigned to you. For your first year at UNF, you will have an advisor from the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). It is highly encouraged that you meet with them at least once a semester before you register for classes!

  1. Tutoring

Discovering the career path that’s best for you is one thing, working toward achieving that goal is another. Sometimes we find we need a little extra help in our classes and that’s okay! The ACE tutors are there to assist you. Check out their website for the complete list of subjects offered for tutoring and how to set up an appointment. It’s always best to be proactive and ask for help right away instead of falling behind.

  1. Research databases

With college also comes more complex research papers. This means you can’t use Wikipedia or BuzzFeed as references anymore. The Thomas G. Carpenter Library at UNF has a complete database of credible sources for you to search. This will be an incredibly valuable resource when you get into to your upper-level courses.

  1. Have a voice

And finally, be heard. It’s easy to hide behind the comfort of a computer monitor and complain. It’s another thing to step out in faith and be the solution. Getting involved in Student Government on campus can give you that outlet to affect the change you wish to see. It will also help you be more confident and gain valuable experience that will transfer into any work environment.

So no matter what, we want you to know that you are not on your own at UNF. College can be hard and sometimes an awkward transition, but we have provided numerous resources to make it as easy as possible. It’s up to you to take advantage of them, though. It’s your future, take control of it.
