Kate Mesic graduated from the University of North Florida’s English Department with law school dreams. Read why UNF was the perfect place for her to develop as an English as a second language student.
I am the President of the Law Offices of Kate Mesic, PA, a law firm that I started in 2011. I have a diverse practice, with much of my time working with small businesses as they start and grow.
I moved to the United States with my family while I was in high school. When I applied to UNF, I had been speaking English for three years. UNF provided the ideal environment for a student like me, with small classes and a lot of individual attention from professors who truly cared.
I loved the English department. It provided me with the skills I really needed for law school and beyond. Not only was I accepted into law school at the University of Florida, but I was successful. For the first time, I felt that I was being taught how to analyze literature and how to write about it. My first year at UNF, I was fortunate enough to take a class with Eileen McGuire. She taught me how to write, she truly did. She spent countless hours with me on every paper.
I don’t know if anyone is ever prepared for what law school entails, but I know I felt ready. My professors in the English Department helped me hone my writing and analytical skills. This made an enormous difference in law school. My pre-law professors always pushed me outside of my comfort zone when it came to public speaking, leadership and my classes. I am eternally grateful for the guidance they provided.
Sincerely,
Kate Mesic, PA
