10 things to do as a freshman at UNF


Getting involved on campus as a freshman is such a big part of your college experience. It will help you make the friends you will be with through it all and help you grow as a person. So get connected on campus with these top 10 things to do as a freshman at UNF!

  1. Zip line night

Campus Recreation offers students the opportunity to zip line over Lake Oneida at night! There are scheduled nights multiple times throughout the semester where students with an active Osprey1Card can come out to the Osprey Challenge Course and experience a night of zip lining along with other students.

  1. Osprey Cliff

Freshman at the University of North Florida have access to the Student Wellness Complex and the features that it offers. The Osprey Cliff is a rock climbing wall located in the Student Wellness Complex. It allows students the chance to get a total body work out while having fun and challenging themselves mentally and physically in a safe environment. The Osprey Cliff is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

  1. Sporting events

UNF has recently made the move to NCAA Division 1 Athletics. What better way to support your Ospreys than to attend a volleyball or basketball game in the UNF arena? You can watch baseball, soccer and track events at Harmon Stadium as well. With 18 sports teams, there’s something for everyone to watch at UNF.

  1. Twisted Tuesdays at Osprey Plaza

Campus Life hosts Twisted Tuesday every week during the fall and spring semesters and twice over the summer. The event allows students to participate in a different DIY project each week, from building terrariums, to decorating pumpkins, to creating and designing your own mug.  It is an excellent way to make campus connections and a great creative outlet for students.

  1. Shuttle to Artwalk

The office of Campus Life offers free transportation to and from Artwalk in Downtown, Jacksonville. The shuttle will pick students up in front the Student Union at 5:30 p.m. and the return shuttle will pick students up at 9:30 p.m. in front of MOCA. Students must preregister to be able to ride the shuttle and must return from Artwalk on the shuttle as space is limited and roll will be taken.

  1. Career aptitude test

All students and alumni have the opportunity to register with UNF’s Career Services. Career Counselors are available to help you develop a personalized Action Plan to help you determine the next step for your education and career. There are multiple career assessment options for students to choose from or they can customize a one-on-one appointment with a Career Counselor.

  1. Fitness classes at the Student Wellness Complex

The Student Wellness Complex is a state-of-the-art fitness complex that is open to all active students at the University of North Florida. The complex offers a number of different scheduled fitness classes for students to engage with one another while working on their physical fitness. There are over 30 classes to choose from that range from Hip Hop Fitness, to Yoga, to Kickboxing.

  1. Clubhouse Fridays

Every Friday Campus Life hosts Clubhouse Fridays at the Osprey Clubhouse. Each week there are different activities and refreshments for students to enjoy. This is a free event for students with an Osprety1Card.

  1. Monday trivia at the Boathouse

Campus Life and Chartwells have teamed up to offer students a trivia night on campus every Monday during the semester. It is a great way to interact with other students, challenge your random knowledge and win awesome prizes. Trivia night is free for all students with an active Osprety1Card.

  1. Light Up the Lake 2016

UNF is celebrating the end of the fall semester with a glow party on campus. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on November 19. It is free for students and will feature a live DJ, giveaways, food, face painters, balloon art, games and a station where you can design your own glow T-shirt.
